The people arriving at our shores by boat can no longer be considered Refugees or Asylum Seekers if they have arrived at other countries before moving on to Australia. To bypass the countries they have traveled threw which are more likely to have their first language and similar cultural values. Then to further exit other countries that predominantly have the same religious and social identities. Only to arrive in Australia where only small conclaves of their ethnic groups exist and where it has an overwhelmingly a different ethical, political, and spiritual belief system must take tremendous drive. They must have other agendas such as economic or to be with relatives that are already here. I don't for a second think any could be from terrorist ideals sent here as we are just not that important in the world scheme of things.
It is generally considered against the Australian ethic of a fair go to cue jump which is just what is happening when we give them any consideration. These boat people in the security of the first country they escape to or even the second can apply with all the other refugees and asylum seekers that we Australians take in every year. When they arrive we should not process them as refugees but send them directly back to the first port of call after leaving their countries of origin as that is where they ceased being refugees and became economic opportunists.
Australia is a rich and large land but ecologically we are at the limit of our population especially in regards to water security. We need to take pause to our migrant intake until we have resolved a few of these problems. Now i am not saying to cut intake but to maintain the same levels we would apply to climate controls for our Nation.
Many would argue we need the migrant intake to bring in skilled labour but is this the same skilled labour that is being laided off in ever sector of our economy. Which will end up competing with the unskilled arrivals for any job. The other point i would make about migrants is that should they be over 40 years of age then we only get half their productive life before they become part of our ageing population burdening our children and grandchildren with high debt levels to repay.
If we could only use a similar network of information about Australia to get tourist to come here.
